Elephant Bedroom for the ladies we love

Elephant Bedroom, or EB as many refer to it, remains one of the most magical safari camps in Kenya. From the location, to the tents (raised on stilts), to cooling off in the plunge pools (one on the deck of every tent), to the wildlife encounters, to the food… They have understood their product and the environment that surrounds the property, to delivery a truly special experience that leaves you wanting to go back over and over again. With Mothers Day just around the corner, why not spoil your mother with a long weekend away at Elephant Bedroom, whether you send her with her friends, or accompany her on a relaxing weekend, EB truly allows you to switch off, be pampered and reconnect with nature.

The road to Samburu is refreshing and a very pleasant drive. Out of Nairobi and up to Mt. Kenya, before you drop down the escarpment through the wheat fields of Timau, and down onto the Rift Valley floor, you get to see the rich diversity of what Kenya has to offer. The road is good the entire way to Archers Post (turn –off for Samburu National Game Reserve) with minimal traffic, provided you leave Nairobi in the morning.

If the Kenyan roads are not for you, there is the option to fly to one of the airstrips in Samburu and be met by an EB camp land cruiser, accompanied by refreshments and a short game drive to the camp.

The charm of Elephant Bedroom is the encounters you have with the resident Elephants that pass through the camp daily, at all hours. You can be sitting in your plunge pool on your deck, escaping the relentless midday Samburu sun and Otieno, one of the resident bull Elephants, strolls by your deck on his way to the Ewaso Nyiro River, that runs in front of the camp.

Samburu is a remote part of Kenya, limited phone signal and hence contact with the outside world, which will allow your Mother the chance to truly switch off and escape from the reality of daily life. The highly skilled staff at EB, led by their manager Gitonga are always on call and on point to ensure your mother will not have to lift a finger. It’s safe to say, she will be in extremely capable hands throughout her stay at EB.

The outstanding quality of food at EB always leaves you astounded at how they manage to produce such quality from such a basic “bush” kitchen. Every meal is cooked to perfection, and should you require anything else to accompany your meal, the kitchen is on hand to give your meal that personal touch.

Take your mother to Elephant Bedroom this Mother’s day, give her the opportunity to switch off and truly escape the realities of daily life, at one of the most magical camps in Kenya. The sound of the Ewaso Nyiro River running throughout the night and the sandy river banks will put your mind at ease and make you feel like you’re at the coast, in the complete peace and tranquility of the Kenyan bush.
